Nissan Fundoplication Surgery
Because of Noah's severe reflux and now aspiration problems, it was decided that an open nissan fundoplication was necessary. Basically what the surgeon does is wrap the top of the stomach (fundus) around the bottom of the esophagus. This prevents food from coming back up so he won't be able to reflux and aspirate. This afternoon Noah had surgery and it went well. He is now in PICU still intubated and on the ventilator as he was having alot of breathing difficulties after the surgery.

Hi. I am a friend of Erin's from Babyzone. She keeps us updated on little Noah. I wanted to say that I think he is just adorable and that he is constantly in my thoughts and prayers. Lisa
Hello, my name is David and my son was born at UT Hospital in Feb 2001 he was born with his bowls outside the body. He was a prematiure baby 3lb 9oz he was so tiny he also had a brain bleed and a valve leading from the heart to the lungs that didnt shut off sometimes happens in premature babies. He also had to have the Nissan Fundopliction because his little belly coundnt take the milk or formula. Now he is 4 years old and dowing wonderfull, he still has a feedind tube and we dont know when it will be able to come out. He has all kinds of scares on his little body it's relly sad. At first when we brought him home from the hospital it was bad, all he could do was choke everytime he would try to eat and we found our selves in a bad situation it was all the time he was choking and gaging and me bening a coal miner and and wife working for the state park we was nutts. All we could do was ask God to help us and he has if it wasnt for the good Lord above he woulnt be with us today after 7 major surgery's. Hey my family and friends know what we have been through with our son. Now where I worked in the coal mines I had about 350 or 500lbs fall on my chest and now there goning to have to do the Nissan Fund on me and Im really having a hard time with this. We are so glad your baby is ok, keep praying to the good Lord and things will get better for you and your family. God Bless your family.
I had reflux as a baby and suffered cronic indigestion for years which resulted in serious damage to my oesophagus. I had a nissan fundoplication 9 years ago which has resulted in a total cure. I now have a healthy oesophagus and have never sufferred indigestion since it has totally changed my life for the better. I was 48 years old at the time of the operation. My oldest son has also had a nissan's he was 31 years old. We can totally recommend this proceedure. Both were performed with key hole surgery. 6 weeks recuperation time.
I had the open nissan fundoplication in 2006 and have still suffered from acid since the operation. I suffered a lot of vomiting after op which continued for weeks. Possibly something worked loose due to excessive vomiting still under surgeon and will be returning for further tests in september has anyone else had poor results of this type of op
