PICU Day 12

We have a line...

Noah went into surgery this evening. Everything went smoothly, and the surgeon was able to thread a line through the left internal jugular. The vein was scarred and takes some odd twists and turns, but it wasn't completely blocked off as we had feared. Noah is intubated now and heavily sedated tonight. We are so incredibly thankful...thankful to the surgeon who was willing to try...thankful to the PICU staff who have backed up our decisions, even when they didn't fully agree...thankful to our gentle heavenly Father for guiding us through this day. There is much to overcome yet, and with Noah's line history, this is by no means a solution...but we have bought ourselves some breathing room...and a whole lot of hope for a little more time with Noah.

Nichole and Brad,
Once again, I am away and out of town with family in Calgary but I am following your blog on a daily basis. My heart is with you all constantly and you need to know that my entire family including those from Calgary are praying for both of you and for our sweet Noah. Noah has become such an integral part of our family and we miss seeing him with that smile that brightens any room. We miss the twinkle of his eyes and that corner of a smile that melts our hearts. I can't imagine some of the difficult decisions that you both have had to make over the last few days especially without some of the very familiar faces that have become a part of your hospital family. Know that Ed and I send all of our love to all of you. Give Noah hugs and kisses for us. Stay strong and continue believing in miracles.

We give God praise. I must admit, that we wondered if he would make it through surgery. What a fighter. Pray that you and Brad can rest a bit esier today, and that Noah has a better day. Love you.mom

Wow, you have a line, what a blessing. In the previous post, I was touched by your strength as I read about NOT being 'ready to stop fighting for Noah'. It brought me back to the day we were in ER with Hope and she wasn't breathing. They had been bagging her for 20 minutes when the discussions started about stopping. I couldn't make that decision. When it comes right down to it, we never stop fighting for our kids, even when things are very bleak. It's something that I have always prayed for...that I wouldn't have to make that decision to 'stop' on my girls. Letting them go peacefully in God's perfect timing is what I hope for.

As I pray for Noah to keep fighting through this to get home again, I also pray that you will have confidence in your decisions. And that you will feel peace in knowing that you are doing an incredible job as Noah's mother, nurse, advocator and most important, his champion.

Bless you Nichole.

We are sending more prayers your way from a fellow Wish mother, fellow DisBoarder, but one of the few from Canada.

The Lord is watching over your family and may he continue to give Noah - and all of you - strength to persevere. We have also experienced scary ICU moments (ours were NICU) and we hope you will feel our support, standing beside you, while you continue to continue your fight.

May God's blessings shine down on Noah and all of you,

Alison (Wish Mum, mother to Mark and Douglas, born @ 26 weeks, Mark has cerebral palsy)...and we're from Toronto, so having spent >250 nights at Sick Kids, we know, we know...)

Hi Nichole,
You don't know me but I am a friend of Kerri Kincaid out in Seattle and she is Ramona's sister...I believe that is the connection. I have been reading your blog and just want you to know that I am praying for your sweet little Noah and your whole family. I pray mostly for peace from our heavenly Father as you and your husband seek him to make these terribly difficult decisions. I have four children of my own and can not even begin to imagine this difficult path Jesus is allowing you to go through.I am so very sorry for all of the pain you must be in.I pray that the Lord will continue to reveal himself to you..I pray for rest for you as well...Praise God that they were at least able to get the PIC line inserted. I truly believe that our God is a God of miracles...I will keep believing for another one for Noah. Thankyou for sharing your deeply personal story and for allowing total strangers to pray for you.May Noah have a peaceful night tonight. Love in Christ,Meg O(Snohomish,WA)
